We had a nice dinner at The Pickled Herring. Service was good, and even though we had to wait a short time for a table, it worked out perfectly—we grabbed drinks at the bar and stood at a little standing bar that kept us out of the way. My husband and I shared the fish fry, which was more than enough for the two of us, and we also split the onion rings with homemade blue cheese dressing (so good—definitely the highlight!). The fish fry itself was decent, though nothing to write home about, and the drinks were on the pricey side. Overall, a solid spot with great onion rings and friendly service!

We stopped here for dinner on a chilly winter night. Super welcoming staff and excellent service. We had a great chat with the bartender! He makes a really great espresso martini. We ordered sprouts, steak salad, and shrimp tacos. The food was a little over sauced for our preference (heavy balsamic glaze on the sprouts, heavy coleslaw dressing) but otherwise was great! And of course, the view can’t be beat. Really tasty meal, we’d definitely go back next time we visit Bayfield!

We decided to visit this restaurant based on the reviews. It's also across the street from the Apostle Island Cruise we took. I ordered the whitefish and fries because I heard that whitefish is good. It was delicious...so flakey and tender. I also tried cheese curds for the first time. They were good even though I'm not really into fried cheese. I highly recommend and will definitely return.

I had the chilli and a bowl of wild rice soup and both were outstanding. Seven people ate and all seven had different things and everyone LOVED it. Toni was our server and she is so good that even the if the food was trash (absolutely delicious) we would still come back again. She is friendly, and knowledgeable. We ate outside and what a perfect atmosphere and view. Six starts for service and food.

Visited the Pickled Herring for a late lunch/early dinner before an Apostle Islands cruise, since it was right across the street from the docks and rated pretty well. It's definitely a fun place to relax and have a drink or a full meal. I ordered the Hugo Spritz and it was exactly what I was looking for in a cocktail....light and crisp. I ordered the fish sandwich so I could try the local Lake Superior white fish. Blackened was a good choice for how it was cooked. Flaky and juicy...delicious. ibopted for the sweet potato wedges as a side, and wow, were they good and a generous serving. I think I ate the equivalent of two medium sweet potatoes in one sitting...lol. everything tasted great and the staff were very friendly. The dinner seating overlooks Lake Superior, always a plus, and their bar area looks like a fun vibe, too. I would come back. Thanks!

My boyfriend and I came to The Pickled Herring for the first time after coming to Bayfield for the third time in the winter. Every cocktail was AMAZING! We had to take a picture of the menu so we could attempt to re create them at home. We had the Steak Naan for an appetizer and that could have been an entree . It was so delicious. Jody is a great bartender, he knows everything about the bar, restaurant and the city. We will be back every visit! Thank you for the wonderful experience, Jody!

This is a fantastic spot for dinner and drinks. If you have a herring lover in your midst, this is a must: theirs is locally caught and made in house. The smoked trout dip was also out of this world, and the salmon salad with green goddess dressing was 12/10 stars. Plus great cocktails, and they have the local Apfelhaus cider (sadly not on tap but still good). Nice to find a good Hugo spritz in northern WI of all places!

I enjoyed my food here. The whitefish was delicious. My wife had the chicken Alfredo and really loved it. Our wait staff was awesome as well. Great view of the lake from our outdoor seats. Will be going there again!
